A Rib Mountain Senior Session |Ashton, Class of 2026

Rib Mountain State Park feels like my backyard—because it basically is! I’ve looked out my back door at this landmark a thousand times, but every time I photograph a session here, I’m reminded why it’s such a gem for high school seniors in the Wausau area.

From the lookout spots where you get a birds-eye-view of Wausau, to all the trails and climbing rocks, there’s no shortage of beautiful backdrops to celebrate a milestone session like high school graduation and senior year.

This particular session was extra special for me. I’ve known Ashton’s family since I was in high school. Over the last few years, I’ve had the honor of photographing his two older brothers and two of his cousins. Their family has become such a familiar part of my photography journey, so getting to photograph Ashton as he enters his senior year felt like a full-circle moment.

Even though I don’t know him as closely as his siblings and cousins, it didn’t take long to see who he is: quiet, kind, grounded, and hardworking—the sort of young man who carries himself with humility. One of the most meaningful parts of his session was when he chose to wear his grandpa Greg’s work shirt from Kimberly-Clark. His grandpa passed away a few years ago, and wearing that shirt was such a simple, powerful way to honor him. I loved how it brought depth and connection to his portraits without needing to say a word.

The evening light at Rib Mountain State Park did not disappoint—soft skies, tree-lined paths, and sweeping views that make it one of my favorite spots to photograph. I’m so glad they were willing to drive up and explore Rib Mountain a bit; I loved getting to capture his portraits in a place that feels like “home base” for me as a photographer.

And then there was the highlight of the night—an unexpected surprise. We came across some construction equipment, and Ashton jumped at the chance to show off his muscles next to a CAT excavator. The laughter that followed made for some of my favorite memories of the evening. It was such a fun reminder that the best parts of senior sessions aren’t always the planned poses, but the genuine, unprompted moments that bring out personality.

Ashton, it was an honor to add your story to the many chapters I’ve photographed for your family. Wishing you the best as you step into this next season!
