A Night of Aviation History: Honoring Legacy, Youth, and Service
Last month, I had the privilege of attending something truly special—The Night of Aviation History with EEA Chapter 640, a powerful event that brought together generations to honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future.
Unlike many aviation-centered events filled with engines and flight, this night was grounded—but no less moving. At its heart was a beautifully produced documentary honoring a Vietnam veteran and Wisconsin native, Captain Scott Alwin. His story of service, sacrifice, and camaraderie was shared not only through film but also through the heartfelt testimonies of his family in attendance.
The film, Honor in Flight, was a poignant reminder that aviation history isn’t just about aircraft—it’s about people. It's about missions flown in silence, bonds forged under pressure, and the legacy that lives on long after the flight ends. The presence of Civil Air Patrol members and local veterans, all gathered in quiet reverence, brought a profound sense of respect and unity to the evening.
Adding to the night’s warmth was the celebration of young minds. Three students were honored for their outstanding work in creating short, flight-inspired videos. Their creativity, curiosity, and thoughtful storytelling were a beautiful reminder that history is being carried forward by passionate new voices.
And of course, what’s a night of community without sharing a good meal? Mosinee Cafe provided delicious food that encouraged conversation, connection, and a sense of shared purpose, while Forward Beverage offered soft cocktail refreshments.
It wasn’t a night of flying—but it was certainly a night of flight: emotional, historical, and human. I walked away deeply moved, grateful for the opportunity to witness the stories told, and reminded once again that the most important parts of history are the people who lived it—and those who carry their stories forward.
If you're planning a community event, tribute, or milestone celebration and want those meaningful moments preserved with care and intention, I'd be honored to help you document it. Reach out any time—I’d love to help tell your story.
