Honoring Memorial Day in Downtown Wausau

An American flag waves in front of the Wausau Fire and Ambulance during the Memorial Day parade 2026

This Memorial Day weekend, the Wausau community came together for the annual parade honoring and remembering the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

One of the things I love most about having my studio just outside of downtown is getting to experience events like this right outside our door. The parade route passed directly by the studio, giving me the opportunity to capture moments from a unique perspective while watching families, veterans, and community members gather together in remembrance.

This year’s parade was led by Wausau American Legion Post 10 and included veterans organizations, community groups, first responders, and local participants proudly making their way through the streets.

While Memorial Day weekend often marks the unofficial start of summer, the heart of the holiday is remembrance. As a veteran-owned business, I deeply appreciate the meaning behind these moments and the importance of preserving traditions that bring communities together.

Throughout the morning, there were so many moments that stood out:

  • Children waving American flags

  • Veterans receiving applause as they passed

  • Families gathered together along the parade route

  • The sounds of marching bands echoing through the neighborhood

  • A strong sense of gratitude and community spirit

I captured some of my favorite images from the event below as a way to help preserve those memories and celebrate the people who continue to make Wausau such a connected and supportive community.

Thank you to everyone who organized, participated in, and attended this year’s parade.
