Do I Have to Let My Photographer Share My Photos?
Some Galleries Aren't Meant for Social Media—and That's a Beautiful Thing
As photographers, we often get excited to share beautiful images. It's one of the ways we celebrate our work and connect with future clients.
But every once in a while, I photograph a session that you'll never see.
And honestly? I'm completely okay with that.
The images I create don't belong to me—they belong to the families who invite me into some of the most meaningful moments of their lives. Whether they choose to frame every image in their home, keep them tucked safely in an album, or never share them online at all, those memories are still incredibly valuable.
One of the greatest privileges of my job is being invited into some of life's most meaningful moments. That invitation comes with trust, and I don't take that lightly.
Because that's the thing...
These photographs were never created for Instagram.
They weren't created for Facebook.
They weren't created for my portfolio.
They were created for this family.
They were created so that years from now, they can remember the way their baby fit perfectly in their arms. The tiny toes. The sleepy stretches. The overwhelming love that filled those first few days together.
This sweet family chose to keep their gallery private, and I completely respect that. They graciously gave me permission to share this one tiny detail from their session, and I'm so grateful for that trust.
One of the greatest honors of my job is being invited into a small moment of a family's story. Whether those photographs are shared with the world or treasured quietly within their home, my goal is always the same: to create images that will mean even more years from now than they do today.
So if you’re wondering,
"If I hire a photographer, do I have to let them share my photos online?"
My answer?
Absolutely not.
If you're looking for a photographer in Wausau or Central Wisconsin who values your family's experience just as much as the photographs themselves, I'd be honored to tell your story—on your terms.
